150-HOUR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN KIIKO MATSUMOTO STYLE
CURRENT CYCLE: SPRING 2018-WINTER 2019
MIAMI - PHILLY - BOSTON
We are now offering a Kiiko Matsumoto Style (KMS) acupuncture certificate program, a directed course of study in KMS approved by Master Kiiko Matsumoto. The core program is based in Miami, with supplemental offerings in Boston and Philadelphia. This is the first program of its kind on the East Coast USA! To find out more about Kiiko style before learning about our certificate program, see here.
Why a certificate program?
Many acupuncturists feel less-than-confident in approaching the complex conditions of today with TCM alone, or they encounter Kiiko sensei and see the amazing potential of her approach. For those who are striving to learn a style that will greatly empower their practice, this program will offer directed study with a small class size, hands-on supervision and the opportunity for friendly, in-depth exploration of theory and technique under Kiiko's assistant teacher and close apprentice, Grace Rollins.
In our experience, the goal of certificate "completion" provides motivation and a sense of direction, and instills a well-deserved sense of confidence in the recipients. This confidence is carried over in your work with your patients, as you proudly display your certificate, signed by one of the greatest Japanese acupuncturists of our time.
We also hope that our certificate program will motivate more practitioners to deeply study KMS while Kiiko sensei is still in her prime of teaching and highly accessible to audiences-- particularly in the Southeast USA, where Kiiko style is not yet as common as in the Northeast and West. As we deepen our understanding, we can benefit even more from watching our esteemed teacher at work. We are in a very lucky generation to have access to this amazing master-- let's take advantage!
How does it work?
Participants may take any courses and seminars offered by Yuyao Society, which will accrue towards the 150 hours needed for the certificate (Japan Study Seminar excluded). Once completed, participants will receive a beautiful certificate signed by Master Kiiko Matsumoto and stamped with the traditionally carved chop given to her by Master Nagano. We highly recommend taking as many Core courses as possible, which will be taught by Grace Rollins and based in Miami, Florida. Yuyao Society-sponsored seminars in Philadelphia and Boston (with Kiiko Matsumoto or Grace Rollins) can also accrue toward the 150 hour total, to make completion achievable for most by the end of 2019.
Participants will also have access to resources such as group support, direct mentorship from Yuyao staff, and optional writing/case study review projects.
Yuyao Society is an approved NCCAOM PDA provider and we anticipate being able to offer credits for all of our course offerings. You must be in a licensed medical profession that includes acupuncture in its scope of practice, or a 2nd/3rd year acupuncture student to participate.
How do I start?
Email us when you decide to commit! We will put you on our list and start tracking your course hours to count towards your certificate. We recommend starting right away so that you can take enough courses to complete your certificate in time for a signing ceremony in late 2019.
You can ask for one of our Yuyao Passports as a fun way to keep track of the hours you accrue in the certificate program. We just ask a $10 deposit on the passports which will be refunded if you complete your 150-hour goal. You can make your deposit via our online store and we'll mail it out to you, or have it reserved for you at the next seminar.
There are no extra fees for joining this program, and in fact discounts will be offered for certificate program candidates who would like to purchase class packages in advance (contact us for details). You can join at any time but we recommend taking our Intro to KMS/foundations course if possible; for those who miss the latest offering, we will offer an optional KMS basics in a Friday class preceding our Core classes in Miami (subject to sufficient demand). Please see our Calendar for confirmed and TBA dates.
Core classes will cover much of Kiiko Matsumoto's Clinical Strategies Vol 1 & Vol 2, bringing the teachings of these powerful books to life. Several courses will be offered in Miami per year in addition to seminars with Kiiko Matsumoto in Miami, Philadelphia and Boston. Current classes are posted to our calendar here with more dates TBA. Class topics to include (subject to revision):
Introduction to KMS (Technical basics; immune, oketsu, stomach qi)
ANS and Hormonal treatments (thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, etc)
